A fundraising drive to help provide decent homes for British heroes seriously wounded on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan has hit £100,000 – thanks to generous Daily Mail readers. Your unstinting support has meant the ‘Coming Home’ campaign, launched by Haig Housing Trust, has raised the whopping six-figure sum in just over a month.

One donor, who wanted to remain anonymous, wrote a cheque for £40,000. The money will be used to find and adapt properties so hundreds of servicemen and women who suffered terrible injuries risking their lives on the front line can rebuild their lives.

The £20million drive, backed by Prime Minister David Cameron, is hoping to help more than 200 sailors, soldiers and airmen whose lives were changed forever serving this country. Major General Peter Besgrove, chief executive of the trust, said: ‘The Coming Home campaign has got off to a brilliant start thanks to the Daily Mail and its generous readers. But we still have a long, long way to go.
'We owe these servicemen and women everything so the least we can do is to give them a decent home for the rest of their lives.’
Since 2003, more than 675 troops have been seriously injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. They return home facing gruelling challenges – but determined to overcome them.
